Gramodaya (Model Village for Eco Friendly Social Development)
Sustainable development of villages with an environment friendly perspective is the need of the age. As part of village institution interface the college has adopted the Mayiladi village (6th division of Valanchery municipality) and implemented a project for eco friendly social development. The execution of the project was done by the NSS units of the college with the collaboration of Pain and Palliative Society Valanchery. Various schemes were launched in the village under outreach programmes of different departments and clubs of college with special emphasis on waste management, organic farming, palliative care, anti narcotic awareness etc. Different departments organised various programmes in the adopted village of Mayiladi. The various activities so far organised under this scheme are
- Arogya 2018, a free medical camp for the residents of wards 6 and 7 of Mayiladikkunnu Department of Zoology at Girls Higher Secondary School Valanchery. Students of the college were in charge of diagnosing blood pressure, blood sugar, blood group and BMI in the camp. Free eye check up in association with Ottapalam Eye Care Hospital was also held.
- Comprehensive survey on waste management and healthcare to assess and analyse the state of healthcare and disposal of waste produced in the village
- Chalk making workshop for Kudumbasree workers of the village by Department of Chemistry
- Visit to Kudumbasree unit at Tirur with Kudumbasree members of the village by Department of Commerce
- Guidance class to Kudumbasree workers of the village on financing for starting small scale enterprises by Department of Commerce
- Distribution of cloth bags to all home makers of the village as a step to minimize the use of plastic carry bags
- Palliative care in every house
- Organic farming and environmental awareness campaign
- Soap making workshop
- Free health check and cataract detection camp in the village
- Various antinarcotics awareness programmes including street play and pamphlet distribution

We have adopted the Mayiladi Village (6th Division of Valanchery Municipality) and implemented a project for eco friendly social development. Various schemes were launched by different departments at the adopted village. Cloth bags were distributed to the villagers by NSS to reduce the use of plastic. The Department of Zoology organised a medical camp 'Arogya' at the village. Department of Commerce conducted field trip for Kudumbasree workers to small scale entrepreneurships. They have conducted an interaction with Manager of Kerala Gramin bank about bank loans for entrepreneurs. Department of Chemistry conducted a chalk making workshop for the Kudumbasree workers.
